Men Following Christ
I've been known to have my share of 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning adventures, enabling myself to speak at various events across Indiana. One of the best experiences at one of these early morning events came this past weekend in Warsaw. Men Following Christ is a young group meeting with, growing as, and evangelising to men in their local area of Indiana. They've sprouted up very quickly and have a wonderful ministry involving men of all different shapes, sizes, and backgrounds, and these men were a tremendous blessing in my life these past few days.
I showed up in Warsaw a bit before 6:00 AM on Saturday morning and sat in an empty parking lot taking in the Word. A truck pulled up beside me and out came a man dressed with an all-business persona. I found out later that my initial impressions were both correct and incorrect at the same time. John turned out to be a fun-loving man who cared about others far more than he cared about himself, but John was also an all-business man when it came to the Gospel. This man was ablaze in the Spirit of God. It was amazing to see the passion, burden, and even pain in his eyes when he spoke of the men in the world who don't know our Lord and Savior. This is how my time at MFC started out.
Half an hour or more had passed when the restaurant we were meeting in opened its doors and John introduced me to other committee members as we stepped through the doors. If I thought God was going to stop with the introduction of John, I would have been a fool. Quickly, he introduced me to several more men who inspire me still as I think of them. We met for a little under an hour, reading scripture to encourage and spur one another, and spent much of the time in prayer for what was to take place at the breakfast. I quickly found that this group of men is one that I would like to always be a part of.
The breakfast arrived a bit after 7:30, along with over 120 other men who had come for the worship, fellowship, and message. So we ate, we sang, and we let the Lord move through this meeting. I have since continued to be amazed as the Lord taught me so much in such a short amount of time through these men. One of the biggest lessons I learned at this breakfast, as I met with men recently out of prison, men with homes falling apart, men just now out of jobs, is that the biggest ministry we fail to truly focus on is a ministry focused on men. I am inspired that it is essential to focus on the men who trust nothing but their own two hands, for if we reach them for the Cross of Jesus Christ, we will reach their families as well.
In awe,
Bob
