Her own Drummer

I was taking in the sights of South Bend as I meandered south towards our church's softball league game last night.  It's a solid twenty minute drive, so I have to do something to pass the time, or else I'll turn on the radio and let society continue in its pursuit of absolutely killing my grammar (The Way I ARE?).  One of my favorite driving past-times is simply on-the-move people watching.  I like driving through a city and seeing the hustle and bustle on the corners and at the cafes.  Yesterday though, I took in a wonderful sight.

I had driven just south of the city and I was truly disappointed regarding the lack of worthwhile activity going on.  There were no businessmen running late, no out-the-door cafe lines, and I couldn't even catch a glimpse of one cop.  But have no fear, my friends, this is South Bend, and the people-watching advances even with a lack of entertainment.  So just as I pass south of the city, I see a young lady walking along the side of the street; pretty normal, wouldn't you say?  Not so fast, this lady was not "normal."

This lady had a big old set of headphones on and was rocking out to only the Lord knows what.  Her walk transitioned from a glide, to a strut, to a flat-out dance, and back repeatedly as my car passed her, and I realized that this woman was different.  She truly marched to the beat of her own drummer.

Now, I don't know about you, but I pray that people see me as I saw this woman yesterday.  My prayer is that people would look at my life as our paths cross and think to themselves, this guy is not your run-of-the-mill type.  I hope they call me a little out there, a little crazy, and I hope they get the nerve to ask me just which drummer I'm marching to.

March on!

Bob

This post is dedicated to the memory of Jeff Myers.
(He's not dead or anything, I just like remembering him.)

I love that you dedicated this post to Jeffrey. One thing I really appreciate about you is how you see God in every moment. I love it. Your stories always make me stop and thing about whether I've been looking for God. Keep looking for Him.
